The Party of the Year

Calvin turned TWO! Hooray! We have officially entered into toddler-hood. We had a fun little party with a "Cat in the Hat" theme.

Highlights for Calvin were: AJ and Marissa came to play, His favorite present- a tiny puppy that wags it's tail, from AJ Green, Blowing out his candles on his cupcake, which his mommy accidentally blew out first (woops), and of course eating the cupcake. Yum!

I made strawberry cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and "green eggs and ham" which were deviled eggs with the whites dyed green and little ham sandwiches.

All in all, it will be a party to remember for years to come. ;)

First Finger Painting

Let it be known that in the month of March 2011, Calvin began his illustrious career in painting.

It was interesting what he liked and disliked. I was trying to analyze his behavior, with my art education background. I think he liked opening the bottles of paint more than the actual process of putting paint on the surface of the paper.

I think this means that he might be better off as a sculptor, using raw materials to manipulate. None of this petty two dimensional stuff. That stuff's for babies.

He also prefers to eat the watercolor paint off the brush rather than paint with it. I think this may mean that he was feeling a bit of hunger and was drawn to the vivid colors allure. Mmmm, delicious.

I'd say a pretty great start to his art career :)

Third Trimester and Baby Name!

Here I am with baby belly at 26 weeks! I am now 28 weeks and I have entered into the final trimester of pregnancy. In three months, give or take, I will have my precious baby in my arms.

I am feeling pretty great. Nothing really compares to the anguish that was the first trimester and throwing up everyday. Thank the Lord that has passed....But I feel good, besides some general discomfort, particularly at night and throbbing feet at the end of the day. I've been staying home a lot lately during the week. Partly because Calvin is having some learning moments on how to NOT throw temper tantrums while in public, and also because it makes me very tired. Other than that, I actually raked our whole yard today while Calvin napped. I think the nesting/busybodiness is starting to pick up.

I must say, so far, the second time having a child is much easier. I know a lot more of what to expect and how to deal with things. I know what supplies we really need and how to manage by what we went through last time. Ask me again about two weeks in, when the zombie stage kicks in and I'll tell you how easy it is this time ;)

Dan and I have decided on a name for baby brother. Jack Gentry Deitrich. We finally arrived on what seemed like the ONE name we agreed on and when we agreed- it just felt, right. So Jack it is! Gentry for my family sake. Dan actually "revealed" the name of the baby in the thank you notes on his new CD he just released, which turned out to be a fun way to do it. Gotta keep it interesting sometimes. So here's to the last few months of pregnancy! Pray that we have a smooth C-section (yes, again, sadly) and that Baby Jack is healthy and strong. June 10th is the official date for the C-section now, unless I go into labor sooner.

I need to pray!

I apologize for the lack of photos lately. Our iMac has been acting weird and our iPhoto won't even open. Hence the difficulties uploading pics...I have to use Dan's laptop when he is home which makes for fewer uploads.

I have had a great week so far. I had a bit of a revelation over the past week. At our small group I burst into tears over how overwhelmed I've felt lately trying to deal with Calvin's two year old behavior. I've had days honestly where I have to really motivate myself to get up and face another day of challenges. Calvin is really a sweet, sweet boy. It is just mainly the energy levels of that child! He is constantly climbing treacherous things and scaring the living day-lights out of me! This being cooped up at home through the winter is just not working out. He listens well unless it is a transition time, especially leaving somewhere fun. I'm not really strong enough to muscle him into his car seat every time, especially being pregnant....so it gets frustrating.

After my little episode at small group, I realized how bad it has gotten for me. I think I really just need a break! Dan and I had a really good conversation and took some initiative to change some things up in the schedule so I can have a free day here and there. My mom will be watching him every Wed. now and she's going to do a little cleaning too, so that will help immensely knowing that I have Wed. to look forward to.

Most importantly, we started a new sermon series on fasting and prayer at church and the first sermon really spoke to me. I needed to be reminded of the power of prayer. It is so important. I am taking time out of my daily schedule to prayer journal, which has always worked for me, I like to write. I am also trying to seek God and spend some quiet time with him everyday.

I can't tell you what a difference prayer has made even within a week. I can't believe how little I was praying. It relieves a lot of anxiety. And it puts God back in charge :)

Thank you Lord, for relief and the strength of YOUR spirit.
